Dawn Belkin-Martinez has been an activist in the Jamaica Plain community for over fifteen years. She is an Assistant Professor at Simmons School of Social Work. Ms. Belkin-Martinez has been a CLVU board member for five years, and serves on the Board’s Personnel Committee.
Burleane Cooley has been involved with CLVU as a tenant leader for over six years. She is an active member of her building’s tenant organizing committee. She has been on the board for a year.
Laura Foner works as children’s librarian at the Connolly branch of the Boston Public Library. She has been involved with CLVU since 1975, and is a member of the Personnel Committee.
L’Merchie Frazier is Director of Education for the Museum of African American History, a community educator and artist who came to CL/VU in response to resolving her family’s housing crisis. Convinced by the success of the action-based outcomes and methodology that CL/VU utilizes to save our communities she is committed to contribute to the on-going survival, maintenance and growth of this critical and vital organization by serving on the CL/VU Board.
Tom Kieffer is Executive Director of the Southern Jamaican Plain Health Center. He has been involved with CLVU for over 30 years, and served on the board for the past four years. He currently is a member of the Finance Committee.
Debbie Lubarr has been active in social justice organizing for more than thirty years. A longtime resident of Egleston Square, she helped create opportunities for youth during a period of street violence. She also had early organizing experience with the group that later became CLVU. She now works as an adult education teacher.
Lisa Owens is a nonprofit executive, organizational consultant and mentor. Through her consulting work, she helps staff and board leaders of small, grassroots organizations raise money, manage programs, coach staff and plan for the future. Most recently, she was Executive Director of Mytown, a nationally recognized organization that inspires youth to be leaders for social change through sharing the multicultural, social justice history of urban neighborhoods. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the Boston Campus of Springfield College’s School of Human Services, and a Mentor and Senior Fellow at Boston University’s Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership.
Yadira Reyes is originally from Guatemela. She worked at City Life/Vida Urbana for 11 years, as a Housing Advocate for Healthy Homes/Healthy Families Program and the Latino Comprando Casas Coordinator. She has been on the board for three years and serves on the Finance Committee. She is an administrator at Boston College.
Maura Russell is an educational specialist at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She has served on the board of CLVU since 1999, and is President of the board and a member of its Finance Committee.
Magalis Troncoso has been a longtime community activist and Spanish-language journalist. She works as an Organizer for Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation and the Boston Tenant Coalition. She initially volunteered with CL/VU and then worked as a staff member from 1995-2002.
Edna Willrich is a vibrant leader within the network of tenant associations and member of her building’s Tenant Organizing committee. She has served on the CLVU board for over a year. She also does outreach and organizing in the community to make sure that low income elderly people know about and have access to food stamps and other basic needs.
Mike Wolfson is an environmental chemist for the Harvard School of Public Health. He has been a long-time member of CLVU and serves on the board’s Finance Committee.
